Abstract We have studied the relative abundance of atomic hydrogen to dust grains as a function of grain density We find evidence that in dark dust clouds hydrogen becomes practically all molecular. The depletion of atomic hydrogen with respect to the "normal" galactic value is proportional to the amount of grain surface per unit volume and the time elapsed since the cloud was last ionized by a hot star Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: August 1968 DOI: 10.1086/149691 Bibcode: 1968ApJ...153..627V full text sources ADS |
