Abstract

The natural history of cervical infections with Chlamydia trachomatis in women is unclear. Re-exposure to infection is common and therapy inadequate due to the asymptomatic nature of much of the disease. The duration of untreated infections is unknown. This type of information cannot be gathered from human studies. We used the highly reproducible nonhuman primate animal model of chlamydial infection of the female reproductive tract to investigate the duration of cervical infection.
