Abstract
International development of poroelastic pavements is still in the experimental stage. Insufficient durability is one of the most important issues to be solved. Currently, poroelastic road surface is typically composed of crushed stone aggregate, rubber (about 20% by weight) and polyurethane binder. Highly modified asphalt binders (HiMA), a relatively new product on the market, differ significantly in terms of mechanical properties when compared to neat bitumen, typical modified asphalt binders and even polyurethane binders. This paper presents first results obtained during initial stage of SEPOR research programme, which aim is to develop durable poroelastic wearing course based on selected bitumen binders and mixture compositions. Observations of the first short road sections constructed with different compositions of poroelastic SEPOR mixtures yielded promising results.
