Abstract
Coir fibre is a natural fibre extracted from the husk of coconut. They are abundantly available in southern parts of India. Coir geotextiles made from coir fibre are a good alternative to polymeric geotextile and are biodegradable and ecofriendly. Biodegradation is a factor which limits its civil engineering applications. Hence this study is made to find the degradation rate of coir geotextiles. It has been reported in literatures that the coir geotextile remained embedded in soil after 5 years of construction. In this study, coir is embedded in four different soils at the same field conditions in laboratory and degradation is reported.
