Abstract

We present an infant case of duplication of the small intestine presenting with anal bleeding. A one-year and one-month male infant visited another hospital because of vomiting and fever. Enema revealed a large volume of tarry stool. The patient was referred to the hospital when he looked pale and inactive appearance. Severe anemia was noted as shown by Hb level of 4.0g/dl and Ht of 13.7%. So an emergency laparotomy was performed for massive intestinal bleeding. There was an induration about 1cm in size in the mesentery side of the small intestine at 90cm oral side from the ileum end, and a tubular duplicated intestine about 30cm met the normal intestine at the induration. The resected specimen revealed ectopic gastric mucosa in the duplicated intestine and ulcer extending to the muscle layer at the same location that the induration existed.
