Abstract
Duodenal obstruction was diagnosed in two homes pre- sented for necropsy at the Kord Animal Disease Laboratory during the late fall of 1989. The first horse was submitted following a sudden, unexpected death. The second horse had been euthanized after a brief clinical illness consisting of severe, intractable colic. Cause of the obstruction in each case was a bolus composed of green ingesta containing numerous persimmon seeds. The common persimmon is a tree found throughout the South. At maturity, the ripened fruit is highly palatable to foraging animals.
