Abstract

A dual-band dual-mode patch antenna based on the resonant-type metamaterial transmission line is proposed. The resonant-type metamaterial transmission line can provide zeroth-mode resonance at the lower frequency and positive-mode resonance at the upper frequency. For improvement of radiation efficiency, a complementary single split ring resonator is introduced to realise the resonant-type metamaterial transmission line. The equivalent circuit model is applied to analyse and design the proposed antenna. This antenna exhibits monopole-like radiation pattern in the lower band and patch-like radiation pattern in the upper band. Simulation and experimental results are used to verify the theoretical prediction.
