Abstract

A new technique to obtain dual-band response of a single-band conventional circular patch antenna is proposed by incorporating split ring resonators (SRR) metamaterials structure. The proposed antenna is intended to be used for 2.4GHz WLAN and 3.3GHz WiMAX applications. The antenna is fed by use of microstrip line feeding technique and deployed on FR4 Epoxy dielectric substrate with the total thickness of 1.6mm and the dimension of 55mm × 40mm. To demonstrate the dual-band capability, the proposed antenna will be compared with a conventional circular patch antenna which resonates only at 2.4GHz Here, the conventional antenna is also implemented on similar dielectric substrate with the same physical parameters. These 2 kind antennas are compared each other in terms of reflection coefficient, VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio), gain, and radiation pattern. From the characterization result, it shows that the SRR metamaterials is successfully utilized to obtain the second resonant frequency yielding the dual-band of circular patch antenna.
