Abstract

Comparative simulation study of dual segment cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) with different feed configuration is described in the present investigation. The antenna consists of dielectric ceramic (e r = 17) as lower segment and Teflon (e r = 2.1) as upper segment. The reflection coefficient — frequency characteristics and radiation pattern of the proposed CDRA are investigated through simulation using Ansys HFSS software. The proposed antenna provides simulated input impedance bandwidth of 3.75 GHz over the frequency range 7.77 GHz–11.52 GHz (percentage bandwidth of 38.8 %) with simulated peak gain of 3.54 dB at 8.11 GHz. The antenna provides omni directional radiation patterns in E- and H-planes with fairly low cross-polarization level. Such CDRA can potentially use in radar and satellite communication as a primary feed.
