Abstract

This intervention study examined the effects of a newly developed dual-processing treatment protocol administered to adult substance-dependent clients in early recovery. The protocol integrates structured drawing directives with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and is designed to enhance emotional regulation capacity and decrease drug craving. Results showed that physiological craving, but not psychological craving, was reduced in the dual-processing treatment group as compared with the CBT-only group. Implications are discussed.
