Abstract

Photonic Crystal Structures or Photonic Bandgap structures are artificial structures have periodic variation of refractive index, resulting in propagation of light of some frequency bands and blocking light of some frequency bands. They have many applications to optical communications networks. In this paper, simulation of photonic crystal technology based optical wavelength band pass filter is proposed and designed. The BPF allow the entire C-band and L band, which are extended from 1530 to 1565 nm (C band) and 1565 to 1625 nm (L band). The size of the device is minimized from a scale of few tens of millimeters to the order of micrometers. The overall size of the BPF is around 123 μm2 that is more suitable for the photonic integrated circuits and CWDM network applications.
