Abstract

Dual luminescence of uranyl in aqueous solution is observed. The second emittive component is attributed to exciplex formation between (UO 2H 2* and OUO 2+. Unusual concentration quenching effects also support this attribution and indicate a far more versatile behaviour of (OUO 2+* than generally admitted.
