Abstract

AbstractA dual‐frequency shorted patch antenna for WLAN applications is proposed. The dual‐frequency operation is achieved by inserting an additional shorting pin to a slotted planar inverted‐F antenna. The lower and upper operating frequencies of the proposed dual‐frequency antenna are related to PIFA and top‐loaded monopolar modes, respectively, in which both exhibits near omni‐directional radiation patterns. Both the case of embedding U and Y‐shaped slots into the shorted patch are studied and compared. Simulated results are also provided to validate the measured results. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
