Abstract

By embedding a pair of comb-shaped slots close to the nonradiating edges of a rectangular microstrip antenna, a novel dual-frequency operation of microstrip antennas using a single probe feed is proposed and experimentally studied. The two operating frequencies have the same polarization planes and similar broadside radiation patterns. By varying the length and number of the branches of the comb-shaped slots, the proposed antenna provides a tunable frequency ratio from about 1.07 to 1.29. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 23: 183–186, 1999.
