Abstract

This paper presents the design of a microstrip patch antenna (MPA) for dual-frequency operation at 2.1 GHz and 5.8 GHz for Global Positioning System (GPS) and WiMAX applications respectively. The size of the antenna is 65 mm × 88 mm and simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software. Upon achieving an optimum performance, the antenna was implemented on a FR4 substrate with dielectric constant, er = 5, loss tangent, tanδ = 0.02 and thickness, h=1.6 mm and tested using the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). Both the simulation and experimental results were then compared and analysed. It was found that the antenna operates well near the designed frequencies of operations. Good agreements have been achieved for both the simulation and experimental results
