Abstract

The focus of this study is the removal of copper (II) and lead (II) ions from aqueous solutions by photodeposition on nano-structured TiO2/zeolyte system irradiated with visible light. Citric acid has been used as hole scavenger. The influence of the initial concentration of metal ions and of the pH on the removal process was investigated. The quantity of the investigated metal ions photoreduced on nano-structured TiO2/zeolyte system was 46.3% (for copper) and 41.8% (for lead) higher than that photoreduced on TiO2 alone, thus being demonstrated the positive contribution of zeolyte as adsorbent (due to its ion exchange capacity) to the photoactivity of TiO2 nanoparticles. The percentage of copper and lead deposition increases in the range of pH from 2 to 7 and is not influenced by the increase of the initial concentration from 40 mg/L to 60 mg/L.
