Abstract

Substance use disorders (SUDs) are associated with underlying mental health conditions (MHCs). While both SUDs and MHCs are independently associated with increased risk for adverse maternal outcomes, there is limited national data on risk at the intersection of the two. We evaluated the frequency of SUD and MHC diagnoses during deliveries over time and whether combined diagnoses were associated with risk for severe maternal morbidity (SMM).
