Abstract

Circular waveguide to dual-cavity transition is proposed for wideband, high gain, high aperture efficiency and low profile (60.6mm) antenna. Target bandwidth is Ku band downlink and uplink frequency bands. Simulation result shows 40% (10–15GHz) fractional bandwidth at VSWR<1.5. Propose antenna has minimum 11.3 dBi gain at downlink band and minimum 12.4 dBi at uplink band. Aperture efficiency is better than 65% throughout the band. The structure offers a good alternative to standard gain horn antennas but with much less antenna profile. It can be used in phased array applications as well.
