Abstract
This paper reports a study of the residence time distribution of particles in a thin channel-type gas—solid fluidised bed. The apparatus comprises three fluidised compartments in series which are separated by variable-height weirs. The measurements were performed by injecting a tracer of ferromagnetic particles having the same fluidisation characteristics as the particles fluidised in the bed and using a specially designed and constructed detector system. We show that the bed acts as a cascade of three well-mixed reactors.
