Abstract

BackgroundThe significant number of assessment protocols and the actual cutoffs and ratios make the isokinetic studies quite impossible to compare. Our first study shows that a “standard” protocol is widely used by French professional football clubs, however, we also notice that actual ratios and cutoffs to define a “norm” are very unsimilar. ObjectivesApply this “standard” protocol on high-level football players since the age of 17 to define their references cutoffs. MethodsTo define this references cutoffs, Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux (FCGB) players have been included at the beginning of the season, when they were actually able to play football without any restrictions and to pass Isokinetic testing. Players who had lower limb strain over the past 6 months had been excluded. ResultsReference values for cutoffs defined as pathological on ratio bilateral are >15 %. For unilateral's ratios, cutoffs are: RC60°: <0.51; RC240°: <0.64; RM: <0.83. ConclusionWe recommend, in the future, the application of this “model” protocol, using the cutoffs indicated above, to detect muscle imbalance.
