Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this article is to present results obtained by the “Bassin d'essais des carènes” during CYCLOPE project, which was devoted to security and lifetime of surface ships. “Le Bassin” had mainly to achieve trials with rigid and elastic beam segmented models, in order to determine the vertical bending moment. Quantitative comparison of testing campaigns shows that the two techniques give the same results, even in severe sea conditions and even though transient loadings occur. Thanks to this study, “le Bassin” has underlined particularities attached to each type of segmented model, and provides elements helping to choose between them, taking into account expected results, input data, and methodology constraints.
