Abstract
A single-crystal X-ray study of YNiSn confirms isotypy for this stannide and TiNiSi, a ternary derivative of Co 2P type: space group Pnma and Z = 4, a = 7.126(3) A ̊ , b = 4.439(3) A ̊ and c = 7.674(2) A ̊ ; D x = 7.28 Mg m −3, μ( Ag Kα) = 21 mm −1, F(000) = 468 and R = 0.036 for 521 independent reflections ( R w = 0.041). Nevertheless, when atomic coordinates and coordinations are considered, the YNiSn structure is more closely related to the CeCu 2 type. It can now be described as an AlB 2-type derivative and compared with the LaPtSi-type structure, a ThSi 2-type derivative.
