Abstract

AbstractA method, based on mean life times (τ) of T → S emission, is proposed for the determination of stability constants of two successive mononuclear complexes and is applied to the boric acid‐benzoylacetone AB et AB2 phosphorescent complexes in glassy (77 K) ether‐concentrated sulfuric acid media. Results show that this method ‐ if not limited by very near τ values of the complexes – is precise and applicable even to cases where, at high ligand concentrations, filter effects intervene. The use of τ values by this procedure offers, over colorimetric and fluorometric methods, enhanced possibilities to determine the type of complexes formed and their stability.
