Abstract

Dry atmospheric deposition of heavy metals Cd, Cu, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn have been analysed at different sites in Europe to identify seasonal variations and statistical characteristics in the period 1995–1996. Clear seasonal variations of Cd, Mn, Pb and Zn levels between winter and summer were observed. The monthly averages of Cd, Pb and Zn concentrations increase in the wintertime and decrease in the summertime. The monthly averages of Mn concentrations are higher in summer and lower in winter. In general, high levels of heavy metals are found in eastern Europe during the period 1995–1996. A trend analysis for Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn, shows a significant decreasing trend for Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in the different sites considered.
