Abstract

Long term evolution(LTE)supports various services and large amount of data transmissions. Considering the LTE terminal baseband modem chip, high data rates require more complicated logics and memories than previous baseband modem chips in preceding technologies, such as Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA).It requires computationally complex circuitry that drains the user equipment (UE)'s battery power quickly. Hence, LTE proposes an enhanced discontinuous reception (DRX) to extend the UE's battery lifetime. In this paper, with a combination of DRX,we propose a dynamic power management using hierarchical multi-level voltage island partion (HMVP) scheme. The results show that the DRX with HMVP in a single chip of LTE terminal can achieve a better power saving performance.
