Abstract

Abstract Enforcement of drug control policy has been an ongoing effort in the United States since the early twentieth century. Early federal organizations such as the Narcotics Division were created to ensure that drug control policies were enforced. Current drug enforcement agencies continue to uphold drug control policy through a variety of mechanisms which include efforts to interrupt the source at the federal and state level. Federal agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the United States Customs Service work together as well as working with state and local law enforcement to gather information about drug production and target international drug trafficking.
