Abstract
The topic of drug addiction in youth has thus far received relatively little thorough research. The topic sporadically may arouse a community when episodes of violence or delinquency related to drug addiction become prominent. When the emotional climate subsides, the problem of drug addiction is again pushed aside to the fringes of society where only a few dedicated men carry on difficult research and treatment programs. The fact that most of the young drug addicts belong to the lowest levels of society and that they are far from being cooperative further complicates the aim of the investigators. The papers gathered in this book attempt to cover a variety of areas connected more or less directly with drug addiction in youth. They range from the discussion of the physiology and pharmacology of drug addiction and of drug withdrawal to the description of the psychology, therapeutic methods, and rehabilitation program of the
