Abstract

Five percent diazinon walnut shell granules were compared with diazinon sprays for suppression of Drosophila populations in tomato fields. The granular formulation offered longer residual effectiveness than an equivalent amount of diazinon applied as a spray. Diazinon walnut shell granules were observed to fall through weed and plant foliage to the ground. The toxicant volatilizes from the surface of the granules and a portion redeposit on lower plant surfaces thus concentrating the toxicant in the area where adult Drosophila activity predominates.
