Abstract

Drosophila melanogaster has been used as a model system in biological studies for a long time, and those studies have contributed to elucidating the principal mechanisms of life and aging. The notable advantages of Drosophila as a model system such as their low maintenance cost, high reproductive rate, and short generation time and lifespan make the flies a promising investigative platform for primary small-molecule screening of anti-aging drugs. In this review, we summarize and review the benefits of Drosophila as a model system for use in the study of pharmacological anti-aging interventions and describe the previously reported longevity effects of pharmacological interventions in Drosophila.
