Abstract

Much is said about the exploitation of plant wealth by man and heavy pressure on the same by animals. However, though insignificant, there are instances where certain plants or patches of vegetation are not only not exploited but it is taboced to break even a twig. These of cource are usuatly linked with religious sensiments. Certain speicies of sacred nature, plants associated with temples or shrines and sacred groves associated with deities or saints in tribal and rural societies are almost immune to destruction. This communication endeavours to examine the situation of plant conservation by tribal and rural folks in Rajasthan.
