Abstract

AbstractDipicolinic acid (DPA) is an important spore biomarker for Bacillus anthracis (anthrax). Drop coating deposition Raman (DCDR) spectroscopy on a commercial hydrophobic SpectRIM™ plate allowed DPA to be detected at 5 × 10−7‐M deposited concentration, equivalent to approximately 90 spores, significantly below the infective dose (104 spores). The DCDR spectra of DPA differ from Raman spectrum of DPA powder, crystalline state, and aqueous solution.
