Abstract

As unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have come to the forefront of interest ofAs unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have come to the forefront of interest ofvarious powerful groups. This paper addresses a highly debated issueconcerning the deployment of the rapidly developing UAVs (drones) incombat zones throughout Southwest Asia. First, the drones operated byLebanese Hezbollah, Yemeni Houthis, the Palestinian faction Hamas and theIslamic Jihad are introduced, while the following key section provides anassessment of the air defense capabilities of Israel and Saudi Arabia tocounter these threats. The Israeli defense forces have been incorporating newsystems and modernizing the existing ones, making it virtually impossible forIsrael’s adversaries to freely operate any unmanned aircraft within itsairspace. By contrast, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to struggle tosecure its airspace.
