Abstract

The most significant musical production of the Hungarian Company of Népszínház (Folk Theatre) in Subotica was The Girl with Green Hair (A zöld hajú lány, 1981), which was advertised as the first Hungarian rock opera in Vojvodina. Károly Vicsek presented a reality in which teenagers abandoned by their parents are forced to take refuge in alcohol and drugs. Over time, the battle of the generations has acquired a strong political message. The production was seen by ca. 50,000 people in the former Yugoslav states.
