Abstract
Abstract Beginning with a brief analysis of the open digital library environment, the author describes the Digital Resource Life Cycle model and the phased strategies of the Chinese Digital Library Standards project, explains the CDLS open metadata approach to accommodate multiple metadata and dynamic fields, and explores the CDLS extended metadata mechanism within an open standards framework to meet the challenge of an open service environment.
