Abstract

This paper is a study on the impact of traffic conditions on drivers' visual behavior. Traffic conditions were divided into three types: light traffic, medium traffic and heavy traffic. Driving simulators and Eye-trackers were used to test drivers' visual behavior. According to the eye movement statistics data, the eye movement behavior of the driver under different traffic condition are as follows: (1) the fixation duration focused between 0–300 ms, and the saccade amplitude frequency of the driver concentrated between 0.5 degree to 2.0 degree; (2) As the volume of traffic increased, the mean fixation duration and the standard deviation increased; (3) Traffic volumes had a significant impact on the horizontal search range, saccade amplitude, and saccade velocity.
