Abstract

HUD is a device that can help driver recognize various kinds of information quickly with attention to traffic environment. We have studied drivers' cognitive characteristics to unravel fundamental requirements for designing a user-friendly HUD. In this presentation we consider two factors; the binocular disparity that affects the image quality of HUD; the useful area for information that relates to the perception of the HUD image. Firstly, we present an experiment of the vertical binocular disparity which occurs discomfort when viewing HUD image. Secondly, we discuss a study on easily visible for information on HUD under several driver assistance levels.
