Abstract

The comment by Davies and Simmons et al. (2023) argues that aquifer-eustasy works in-phase with glacio-eustasy and its magnitudes are on scale of decimeters. However, the in-phase relationship and limited magnitudes are inferred by climate models which based solely on volume changes in shallow groundwater and fail to take into account the capacity of deeper-seated aquifers. If deep groundwater is properly considered as well, both the in-phase relationship and magnitudes of aquifer-eustasy need to be reevaluated. More through investigations are required to understand the processes of charge and discharge in continental aquifers at different depths.
