Abstract

Abstract In this chapter the author focused on the different aspects of cleaning and disinfecting drinking water highlighting the significance of water hygiene in the contemporary animal industry. This chapter also includes a review on subject areas important to water hygiene which includes: chemistry of drinking water; impact of contaminants on water intake and physiology; biosecurity aspect of drinking water contaminants (mineral, chemical, biologically active contaminants, immunomodulatory compounds, antimicrobial agents, biological contaminants, zoonotic pathogens associated with drinking water); evaluating drinking water safety (water analyses); risk associated with drinking water contaminants; water biosecurity and risk management; and water treatment (sanitation and practical approach to drinking water hygiene).
