Abstract

Drift velocities of electrons in pure argon are derived from measurements of transit times in a homogeneous electric field. The electron avalanches are initiated by the light pulse of a spark, and the current of electrons is observed. The influence of the diffusion on the drift velocity measurements is taken into account.
