Abstract

Drift trike. The name of the device stands of two separate words, one is drift, the another is Trike. Drift is a cornering technique from Japan that appeared in the 1960s on the serpentines of the Japanese mountain roads. The Drift trike is a vehicle that was invented in 2009 in New Zealand. The first trikes were not self-propelled devices, and they had to be transported to greater distances, or towed to the top of serpentine roads by cars or trucks. Thanks to today’s technologies, it is possible to design a drift trike with an electric powertrain, making it a self-propelled vehicle that can be driven on flat terrain and uphill also. In the next article, I will discuss the conceptional design of such a drivetrain.
