Abstract
Random motions of granules in the cell of chara have been analyzed in the resting state as well as in the drifting state of the protoplasmic streaming and the granules have been found to be subjected to random impulses with the same strength from the myosin-actin interaction in both states. A model for the directed motion of the granules induced by the random vibration of myosins interacting with asymmetrically arranged actin filaments has been proposed.
