Drawing of Tubes and Rods

Abstract

Glass tubes and rods of various dimensions, made from various glasses, are required in many places. They have been made by hand from ancient times and are now extensively made by machine. The variety of tubes and rods required has preserved the manual process for special types and low quantities in spite of the development of efficient tube and rod drawing machines. For this reason the description of the most important mechanical drawing processes will be preceded by a short review of the manual methods. This also helps in better understanding of the mechanical drawing processes.
