Abstract
Although a handful of her stories have contemporary settings, most of Olga Masters' work celebrates 'the boredom, the horror and the glory' of small town life in New South Wales between the wars. Barbara Giles, referring to the untimely death which cut short Olga Masters' literary career, laments that 'she will not now write the great Australian novel of rural life', but her achievement as it stands is a valuable and important contribution to Australian literature.
