Abstract

ABSTRACT The Carthage (Cotton Valley) Field contains many massive low permeability sands and covers over 200,000 acres. The field development occurred in stages, first on 640 acres and later on 320 acre spacing. Union Pacific Resources Company operates approximately 21,000 acres and has been studying the Cotton Valley since early in the field's development. Infill well performance and initial pressure tests indicate that the existing wells' drainage areas are probably less than 182 acres. Numerical simulation on a typical well shows that the drainage area averages 67 acres for all the sands. Infill drilling on a smaller well spacing will be required to effectively and efficiently deplete this reservoir.
