Abstract

AbstractThis feature article discusses three remarkable protein fibers: spider dragline, lacewing egg stalk and mussel byssus. Sequence–structure–function relationships of selected proteins in the fibers are highlighted and the potential of these proteins for use as new materials is summarized.
