Abstract

The purpose of this research is to design a digital interactive figure toy “Dr. Ya Young Young” for children, aged four to ten. “Dr. Ya Young Young” is intended to promote and guide children towards dental health, and tooth brushing, as they play a game of dentist. We also attempt to discuss the combination of toy and digital interactive game technology, In an analysis of the literature, articles on toy figures, the theory of interactive game design, emotional design, the human-machine interface (HMI) and publications from the manufacturing industry and materials analysis were all consulted. In a preliminary experiment, we designed a 3D CAD model and used simulation that combines Rapid Prototyping (RP) to build an idea model. The final experiment assembles the electromechanical device and interacts with augmented reality (AR) and virtual game content. SWOT analysis and a questionnaire as well as displays of the “Dr. Ya Young Young” prototype and the interactive game were used to arrive at the following conclusions: 1. The topic of medical treatment education with games is of definite educational value. 2. The emotional design of the figure gives a visceral response, the use of color and an interactive voice created a toy that is fun to use. Playing initiates behaviors which have a positive impact on goal achievement and development in children. 3. The combination of a toy and digital interactive game technology with SWOT analysis and development is an approach that needs attention in the future. 4. The survey questionnaire showed that the facial expression of the toy figure can be fascinating and the digital technology can increase the value of interaction. We expect this research will serve as a reference for future researchers on toy and game design related topics.
