Abstract

We agree with Dr. Hall that better automotive restraint systems should be developed for intermediate children who weigh more than 22 kg and for early adolescents. A double air bag passive device has been perfected in Japan that appears to be effective for all children in head-on accidents. Until these newer devices are available, children weighing more than 22 kg should be placed on a firm cushion and strapped with the seat belt while sitting upright against the back of the seat.
