Abstract

DR. John McLoughlin, who was to become the chief actor in the drama of the Oregon Country of the Pacific Northwest, was born on October 19, 1784, in La Rivière du Loup Parish in Canada, the second of 7 children. At the age of fourteen he went to Quebec to study medicine under Dr. James Fisher and after four and a half years of tutorship was licensed to practice.
