Abstract

To the Editor : With great interest I read the article Historical Vignette: Theodor Billroth by Prof Dr. Adolf Miehlke. To my dismay, I found the name of Dr. Ernst Gold missing, a pupil and assistant of Eiselsberg, dozent for surgery at the University of Vienna, former chief surgeon of the Wiedener Krankenhaus in Vienna. Dr. Gold was the first to find and describe hyperthyroidism. He is an honorary member of the American Thyroid Association. He was surgeon at the Harlem Eye and Ear Hospital for 20 years and now acts as consultant for the same hospital.
