Abstract

The three-dimensional global current system produced by currents deflected towards the Earth from the magnetopause is considered. This system is supposed to be divided into two parts: day- and nightside branches. In the frame of the magnetic field line reconnection model, the current intensity and the magnetic field ( Y-component) produced by the latter in the plasma sheet was estimated. It is found that the ratio of magnetic field intensities in the plasma sheet and in the solar wind equals 0.5, which agrees with experimental data.
